At BDB we aim for homework to achieve the following:
- Practice, consolidate and extend work covered in class or prepare for new learning activities
- Enhance the study skills of planning , time management and self discipline
- Take ownership and responsibilty for learning
- Engage parental cooperation and support
- Interleaving & retrieval practice
Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) follow a centrilised homework timetable. Homework is set on MS Teams, on Mondays; every week for English, Maths and Science, and every fortnight for the other subjects. Homework is due by 9am on Monday.
The homework will be based on the current topics and previous topics and will take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. This is monitored by subject teachers
In addition to subject homework, students will be expected to spend 20 minutes reading and 10 minutes completing a 6-8 line summary in their green homework books. Students have free choice of reading materials, and this could include a novel, non-fiction, news or magazine articles. This is monitored by form tutors.
Numeracy homework will be set from a workbook provided and monitored by the Maths department, in addition to weekly quiz homework.
If students struggle to complete their homework, they will be asked to attend a Homework Study Support (HSS) session which runs from 3.10-4.10 on Thursdays.

This is set weekly by subject teachers and will consist of both knowledge recall, research based tasks and practice exam questions.
